Fred Hazelhoff (July 15, 1925 – January 31, 2002) was one of the most influential Dutch nature photographers. He is considered the nestor and founder of modern Nature photography in the Netherlands. He showed a great affection for red deer and other wildlife, but in later life he developed mainly as a landscape photographer. He inspired many generations of nature photographers and thus contributed to the development of nature photography. Hazelhoff studied graphic design and photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and worked as an art director for various companies. Fred Hazelhoff’s photography was purchased by, among others, the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Print Room of Leiden University Library
We are very pleased that, with the approval of the family of Fred Hazelhoff, we can present this award. The award is not given for a single photo, but for a portfolio. Many categories are on one winning image, but now it is a coherent portfolio in which the photographer shows that he or she is consistent in style and quality.
