3Invitation Photo Contest NPOTY 2023
The Nature Photographer of the Year 2023 is open to wildlife photographers worldwide. Amateurs and professionals, young and old, everyone is very welcome! We will start on December 20th, 2022 with the contest.
This year we have a special category: Nature of the Lowlands. Only photos of nature in Belgium and the Netherlands may be submitted for this category. The category is sponsored by Buitenleven Vakanties, and the main prize is a weekend stay in one of their beautiful holiday homes in the middle of nature!
For all other categories, the submitted images may have been taken anywhere at any time. There are great cash prizes to be won. Moreover, all winning photos, runner-ups, and highly commended photos will also be included in the Nature Photographer of The Year 2023 exposition. The exhibition will be opened during the Nature Talks Photo Festival in Breda and will then travel around the Netherlands and Belgium for a year. You will receive your exhibition photo at the end of the year.
We donate a percentage of the proceeds from the participation fees to various small-scale nature conservation projects. So in addition to winning fantastic prizes, you also directly support nature.
Are you considered an emerging talent in nature photography and are you under 18 or older on Sunday, July 18th, 2023? Then you may participate in our youth category for free. Register quickly and compete for the youth prize of 250 euros in photo products. In addition to this fantastic cash prize, your winning photo will also shine at the next Nature Photographer of The Year exhibition.
The organization of Nature Talks Photo Festival and the jury will be excluded from participation.

Fred Hazelhoff (July 15, 1925 – January 31, 2002) was one of the most influential Dutch nature photographers. He is considered the Nestor and founder of modern Nature photography in the Netherlands. He showed a great affection for red deer and other wildlife, but in later life he developed mainly as a landscape photographer. He inspired many generations of nature photographers and thus contributed to the development of nature photography. Hazelhoff studied graphic design and photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and worked as an art director for various companies. Fred Hazelhoff’s photography was purchased by, among others, the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Print Room of Leiden University Library
We are very pleased that, with the approval of the family of Fred Hazelhoff, we can present this award. The award is not given for a single photo, but for a portfolio. Many categories are on one winning image, but now it is a coherent portfolio in which the photographer shows that he or she is consistent in style and quality.
