Louis Guillot Wildlife Photography Tour Guide

About Louis Guillot | Publications & Recognition

Louis Guillot is an award-winning wildlife photographer, zoologist, writer and conservation storyteller from London, UK. His work has been recognised in prestigious competitions including Nature Photographer of the Year and MontPhoto, while his photography and writing have appeared in BBC Wildlife Magazine, Forbes, Amateur Photographer and the British Wildlife Photography Awards book.

What sets Louis apart as a Nature Talks guide is his blend of wildlife photography and zoology. Holding a degree in Zoology from the University of Bristol, he helps guests understand not only how to photograph wildlife, but also how animals behave in their environments.

For Louis, nature came first: “It all started as a three-year-old in the back garden observing ants… Growing up in London forced me to look at the smaller things first.” He received his first camera at the age of seven and has been hooked ever since.

Wildlife, Zoology and Conservation Storytelling

Louis believes that understanding wildlife is the key to photographing it successfully. His scientific background helps photographers anticipate behaviour, recognise fleeting opportunities and create more impactful images.

He has photographed wildlife across the UK, Europe and South America and spent several years working with the entomology collections at London’s Natural History Museum. In 2025, he was selected as an Emerging League Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP), recognising photographers who use visual storytelling to support conservation.

“If I can make even a slight difference to someone’s view on nature through my photos, I am happy.”

Louis’ Approach to Teaching Photography

Louis believes there is no single correct way to take a photograph. Rather than encouraging photographers to copy his style, he helps guests develop their own creative vision and confidence behind the camera.

“The camera is merely a tool to capture your vision. Think of it as your paintbrush. Of course, I teach the technical ways you can use that paintbrush, but what I really encourage is for people to learn what they want to photograph and why.”

Memorable Encounters & Passions

Having spent extended periods living and working in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest — his favourite place to photograph — Louis has experienced countless memorable wildlife encounters.

“Once, while watching a macaw clay lick, an ocelot jumped from the bushes and nearly caught a bird. Seeing a predation event involving those two species in the rainforest is incredibly rare.”

Away from photography, Louis enjoys tag rugby, fossil hunting, performing at open mic nights and eating sticky toffee pudding. He is also passionate about environmental education and has worked as a children’s forest educator.

Why Travel With Louis?

Travelling with Louis is an opportunity to learn from a guide who combines wildlife photography, zoology and conservation storytelling. His background helps guests understand not only how to create stronger images, but also how to read animal behaviour and anticipate wildlife encounters.

Whether you are photographing birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians or insects, Louis can help you explore a variety of photographic techniques. From telephoto bird and mammal photography to macro photography, flash photography, wide-angle wildlife images and camera trapping, he encourages guests to experiment with different approaches and find the style that suits them best.

You will leave with stronger photographs, a deeper understanding of wildlife, and new ways of seeing the natural world through your camera.
