Marco Gaiotti Wildlife Photography Tour Guide

About Marco Gaiotti

Marco Gaiotti is an Italian wildlife photographer and wildlife photography tour guide born in Genoa, Italy, in 1983. His passion for wildlife photography began after a trip to Southern Africa in 2007. Since then, he has travelled widely, working in some of the world’s most remote and wild places. Alongside photography, Marco holds a PhD in naval architecture and works as an associate professor at the University of Genoa. His teaching background is evident in the field, where he explains photography techniques clearly and in a way everyone can follow.

Award-Winning Wildlife Photographer

Marco’s work has been recognised in many of the world’s leading nature photography competitions, including the Sony World Photography Awards, GDT European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Nature Photographer of the Year, MontPhoto, Glanzlichter, Siena International Photo Awards, and Nature’s Best. His images have been published internationally, including in The Guardian, and featured in projects such as Prints for Wildlife and The New Big Five Project.

Wildlife Photography Style and Environmental Storytelling

Marco creates atmospheric wildlife images where wildlife and landscape feel deeply connected. Rather than isolating animals from their surroundings, his photographs reveal the relationship between species and their environment. Many of his images feel more like paintings than traditional wildlife photography, reminding us that photography is as much art as documentation. His focus goes beyond technical skill, centring on composition, mood, and storytelling. Guests benefit from guidance on both photography technique and developing a stronger creative eye in the field.

Expedition Experience in Remote Wild Places

Marco has worked extensively in remote environments, including wilderness camps in Alaska and expeditions to Svalbard before the polar night. He is also a trained alpine skiing instructor and coach, comfortable in difficult terrain and harsh weather. His mix of field experience, technical ability, and artistic vision makes him an exceptional guide for wildlife photography travel and expeditions.
